This botanical painting was found in rural North Carolina. It was part of a series of five. On the back of one was taped a piece of paper (a photocopy has been attached to the back of this one) that read in part:
Painted by Polly Steele - an aunt of Sherwood Steele - the father of Mynette Steele Tallmadge Kingsbury and Mary Ferris
Sherwood Steele presented th(is) to Marie K. Sullivan shortly after she was married in 1936.
...(It) was done by Polly Steele while in attendance at Ashland Seminary.
